Downtown Winnipeg is the thinnest part of the city for fuel. The core between the Exchange District and the Legislature has surrendered most of its old station corners to surface lots, offices and infill, so the pumps that remain — scattered along the edges of the West End, Osborne Village and West Broadway — face little block-to-block competition and tend to post a few cents above the citywide average. If your day starts or ends outside the core, the honest advice is to fill on the way in rather than hunt for a bargain at Portage and Main.

The better prices are rarely far away: the Pembina Highway strip to the south, McPhillips Street to the north and Regent Avenue out east are Winnipeg’s three big competitive gas corridors, and any of them will usually beat a core-area pump.
